About New Art Gallery

New Art Gallery is a non-profit, artist-led space, initiated in 2018 by Elizabeth Valentine - an artist, children’s author and poet based in a remote part of Sligo along the stunning Wild Atlantic Coast. With a deep passion for creativity and community, Elizabeth launched the first iteration of the gallery as a pop-up exhibition to raise funds for Sligo Cancer Support.
Since then, the gallery has evolved into a collective initiative, shaped by the shared commitment of its members. While Elizabeth continues to support and steward the project, the gallery is now run collaboratively by a group of artists who hold both financial and creative stakes in its direction.
In 2022, during the Boyle Arts Festival, a permanent space was secured in the town. And in 2024, with the generous support of the Roscommon Arts Office, New Art Gallery found a beautiful new home in the historic An Ríoga - a venue that has allowed the collective’s vision to grow further.
As a non-profit space, New Art Gallery exists to support living artists in the sale and development of their own work and creative practice. The gallery is sustained by two types of membership:
Members share the rent and responsibilities of maintaining the space.
Commission Members contribute through a percentage of their sales, helping to fund the gallery’s programme of events, marketing, and a small contingency reserve.
Together, these artists form a living, working collective - committed to nurturing a creative hub in the town of Boyle. Their belief in this shared space reflects a deeper vision: to support not only themselves, but also the wider community of artists and makers across Ireland.
New Art Gallery is both a working gallery and a curated gift shop, showcasing original artwork, prints, and handcrafted pieces by independent artists and designers. It brings colour and inspiration to the town and surrounding areas, offering visitors the opportunity to take home something truly special.
Alongside the shop, the gallery serves as a creative community space, hosting workshops, artist meet-ups and events - nurturing both artistic talent and meaningful connections through shared creativity.
