Artist Statement
Since I retired, I have more time to focus on painting. I work on landscapes and I also do abstract painting. The landscapes are based loosely on scenes I encounter locally. The abstract paintings are inspired by range of influences, for example, reflections on places, on moments in time, on close-ups of landscape features and on the interaction of light on surfaces. I have a particular interest in the history of French Impressionism, especially the later works of Monet.
